Reaching 0 tobacco can be a real obstacle course. Indeed, the feeling of lack can cause more or less annoying effects: headaches, nausea, etc. To remedy this, some people compensate for the need by taking food. But is this really a good idea?
An adequate diet after quitting smoking
Certainly, there is a close link between diet and smoking cessation. Indeed, in order to avoid gaining weight, it is very important to have a healthy and balanced diet. The principle is simple: you should have 3 main meals a day: breakfast, lunch and dinner. You are also entitled to 2 snacks, the first in the morning and the second in the afternoon (take things you like). Also, you should drink at least 1.5 litres of water a day and eat 3 to 5 fruits and vegetables. In short, the aim is to split meals and limit intakes of bad fats and simple sugars, while increasing fibre and protein intake. In any case, with an adequate diet, you limit weight gain and avoid the dietary compensations linked to stopping.
Regular physical activity
Regular physical activity is highly recommended. As a minimum, walk for 30 minutes a day. If you don't have enough time, leave the bus or car behind and walk to the office. Otherwise, you can also use your bicycle to get to work. It's good for your health, but it's also environmentally friendly. Likewise, take the stairs instead of the elevator. From time to time, you can also practice activities that will allow you to move around and relieve stress, such as a bike ride, a hike with friends, climbing...
A new way of life
After quitting smoking, the risk of relapse is high. Therefore, as much as possible, take even one puff of cigarette. Try to find a way to treat yourself in a different way. Likewise, avoid places frequented by smokers and don't hesitate to say no to bad company. Also, cut down on alcohol consumption that might make you want to smoke. Therefore, avoid drinking at night, at least for the first few weeks.
Quitting smoking will also save you a lot of money. You can use the money for your passions and hobbies. It's a good plan to enjoy yourself without spending more. Finally, ask your loved ones to help you if you are afraid to give in to temptation.
